About

Our Story

We might often be referred to as “Little Old Getech”, but our history is steeped in national success. Since our founding in 1989, Getech has led the way in IT distribution across the UK and Ireland – and we have the awards to prove it!

For over 35 years, we’ve been committed to supporting organisations across education, public sector, SMB and enterprise to procure and implement the technology they need to succeed.

Our story starts with selling printers and terminals as a subsidiary of a large European ICT services company, evolving with emerging technologies and key vendors to supply not only the latest solutions to our customers’ IT problems, but the right solution for their specific needs.

Over the years, our capabilities and credentials as a trusted IT partner and distributor on compliant frameworks have grown to our position today as a market leader for major brands including Google, Acer, Lenovo and LEGO® Education.

1989

Getech was founded as part of Getronics NV Group, a global consortium of leading local IT companies dating back to 1887. Our rapid growth can be attributed to the close relationships we formed with brands like Toshiba, as well as becoming an Apple Dealer focused on the education market.

1994

Following a strong half-decade primarily focused on the sale of visual display units and customised 'dumb terminals', we were selected as a prime contractor for the Higher Education Contract. Later that year, we were appointed by Toshiba for the vendor-led National Notebook Agreement (NNA).

1996

The Getronics Centre was formally opened by CEO and President of Getronics BV, Ton Risseauw in June 1996. The purpose-built office and large warehouse in our hometown of Ipswich, Suffolk is still the base of our operations today.

1999

We ratified our promise to put our customers at the heart of everything we do by qualifying for ISO 9001 certification. This standard provided us with the framework to consistently deliver products and services that meet customer and regulatory needs, drive efficiency and our continuous improvement.

2000

Having developed our own brand of terminals, the VISA MC range, manufactured exclusively for us by Wyse Technology, we were authorised as a Wyse Repair Centre to further support our growing network of resellers.

2001

Guy Watts, Bob Baker and Sharon Lough, alongside John Markwell and Tina Blockley, successfully completed a Management Buyout from Getronics, forming Getech Limited in 2001. Guy, Bob and Sharon have remained fundamental to Getech's success ever since.

2005

Our heavy investment in the thin client arena resulted in our appointment by HP as a distributor, cementing Getech's position as the leading supplier of thin client technology in the UK.

2009-2012

We continued to expand our position on compliant frameworks supporting the education sector with our appointment by Samsung as their notebook partner and Lenovo on all lots on the NDNA Framework. By 2014, Getech had become Lenovo's #1 reseller under the NDNA.

2014-2016

We became one of the UK's first Google for Education Partners, supplying Google's ChromeOS solutions to our school customers. Within one year, Getech was awarded Premier Partner status.

At the same time, our position as a thin client distributor continued to grow, being appointed by IGEL and Teradici as a distributor for the UK and Europe.

2017

Lenovo appointed Getech onto the HE Servers, Storage & Solutions National Agreement (SSSNA) Framework, a framework we still supply to Higher Education customers today.

Leveraging our strong network of channel partners, we became IGEL's largest distributor in the UK within a year of establishing the relationship.

2018-2019

2018 saw our relationships with our key vendors go from strength to strength, being awarded by Google as one of their first Chrome Enterprise Partners and MSP Partner.

We also achieved Lenovo Platinum Partner and Data Centre Partner, BT Premier PartnerAcer for Education and Acer Synergy Partner status.

In addition to our partner awards, we were also successful in passing Cyber Essentials certification - A fundamental requirement for the successful award of public sector contracts.

2020-2021

As the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, our distribution of ChromeOS and thin client devices was essential in supporting the shift to working and learning from home.

Our Google capabilities continued to grow, being awarded Google Professional Development Partner status in addition to winning Lenovo Partner of the Year and the Acer Chromebook Performance Award.

Our offering into education evolved to include unique solutions from LEGO® Education and Merlyn Mind.

2022

Building on our successful annual Cyber Essentials certification, we undertook the steps to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus. Our successful award means that Getech meets the highest cybersecurity standard.

With the weight of electronic waste becoming more prevalant, we published our first Carbon Reduction Plan with the aim to achieve Net Zero by 2040.

The year also saw us expand our offering for schools on various frameworks, including EnFrame and CPC, as well as being reawarded a position with Lenovo on the NDNA.

2025

Expanding on our capabilities to support customers with a compliant and sustainable solution to secure IT Asset Destruction, we undertook the rigorous process of achieving ADISA and ISO 14001 certification. These awards enabled us to add further value on the NHS SBS Link 4 Framework.
